exporting skinned mesh clothing separatly in unity looses its skinned mesh render

Hi i have a rig and mesh body skinned in 3dsmax, ive applied skin warp to a spearate object a shirt selected the rig mesh to be used for it and converted it into skin after for exporting on its own to unity.. My problem is every time i do this, unless i export the whole scene out to unity, the shirt or selected parts exported from max never have a skinned mesh renderer on them even though in the exporter it clearly shows them selected ive been trying to research more about it, but as yet seems some people dont have this issue.. im using unity 2018 and max 2016.
